Introduction
Trident was originally established in July 1998 as a branch campus of Touro College New York by its founding President and CEO Dr. Yoram Neumann and was initially accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). Touro College—including the TUI branch campus—was subsequently re-accredited by MSCHE in 2004. Because of its robust growth, fiscal and operational stability, and unique online delivery model, TUI (which was based in California at that time) was separately accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) [now called the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC)] in February 2005. Following a change in control in October 2007, a new board governed TUI and its name was changed from Touro University International to TUI University. Under the new ownership, the management team continued to lead the institution while the learning model, faculty, and staff maintained their central roles in the quality and vitality of the university. In January 2011, TUI University officially changed its name to Trident University International. On March 2, 2020, Trident became a part of American InterContinental University (AIU), an institution that is institutionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and located in Arizona. In November 2020, the AIU System was established to give AIU and TUI the framework to continue serving their unique student populations which existing as a single entity. The AIU System is owned by American InterContinental University System, Inc., which is wholly owned by Perdoceo Education Corporation.
