Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences Requirements

 

Degree Semester Hour Requirement

A minimum of 120 semester hours

Residency Requirement

A minimum of 30 semester hours must be completed at Trident.

Upper Division Semester Hour Requirement

A minimum of 32 upper division semester hours

Course Requirements

 

General Education Requirements

A minimum of 36 semester hours are required to meet degree requirements, these can be met through a combination of specific General Education coursework and Core requirements that also meet General Education competencies.

The Health Sciences General Education requirements are:

Arts and Humanities competency met in Program Core
English Composition 8
College Mathematics competency met in Program Core
Physical and Biological Sciences 8
Social and Behavioral Sciences competency met in Program Core
Information and Technology Literacy 4

Program Core Special Instructions

Complete all Program Core Courses in sequence before taking Concentration Courses and Program Electives.

Senior Capstone Project may not be taken until all other core and concentration courses have been successfully completed. A minimum grade of “C” is required in BHS 499 or BPH 499 to meet graduation requirements

Concentration Option

BSHS students may choose to complete the program with no concentration or choose a program concentration option. With a concentration, the student will complete 16 semester hours of specialized coursework in an area of the student’s choice. Concentrations must be selected prior to enrollment in the capstone course. The BSHS offers the below concentrations:

Please note all concentration courses are listed in academic sequence and should be taken prior to the capstone, but after the Program Core is completed.

Dual Credit Courses

Some Concentration courses provide the option for an accelerated master’s degree by allowing Dual Credit for BSHS students who continue to Trident’s MSHS graduate degree. Those students may apply up to 12 credits for specific courses in MSHS program if they meet the following conditions:

  • Be accepted to the Master’s program at Trident within one (1) year of graduating from the Bachelor program, and
  • Attain a grade of “B-” or above in the Dual Credit courses.
  • Attain a cumulative grade of “B” or above for all Dual Credit courses.

These courses will be identified in the Concentration Special Instructions for each Concentration.

General Electives

Students who elect to complete the program with no concentration will take 60 semester hours of General Elective courses to bring degree totals to 120 semester hours. Students who choose to complete a concentration option will complete 44 semester hours of General Elective courses to bring degree totals to 120 semester hours.

Students may choose to complete either the No Concentration option or one of the Public Health Concentrations
